What do you usually do at the international airport ? honestly, not many can do except sight seeing at the duty free shops, and sometimes you might be attempted then pull out your money to buy something. Most of us know what we need, can be aftershave, perfume, a bottle of drink or cigarette.
However, where is the best place to buy such needs ?.
Most people traveling by international flight have three choices when buying duty free goods. It can be at the departure terminal, in flight, or at the arrival terminal. Logically, people think the price must be the same and not make any comparisons, but it is big mistake.
Sometimes for the same size, brand and type of goods, the price can be much different. Then you need to make calculation before spending your money. If you do not believe it, just try to do little survey when traveling.
Following is the observation of asiatravel.com several times, particularly for flight route Hongkong to Bangkok. The price of Mild Seven Cigarette in the plane is usd 12, at Hongkong International Airport (HKIA) its price is equivalent to usd 14.8, and at BangkokInternational Airport (BIA) its price is THB 480 or around usd 12.2. by purchasing directly during the flight (in the plane), you will save usd 12 per package content 200 boxes. For cheap goods such as cigarettes although price differences is little but it deserves to be calculated.
Lets compare to the higher price goods such as a bottle of Chivas Regal Royal Salute. You will pay usd 60 in your flight, at HKIA it will be HK$ 800 or around usd 103, and at BIA the price will be THB 5.320 equivalent to usd 136. it is a big different, isn't it ? with your money spent for a bottle of Chivas at BIA, you can buy two bottles in plane.
However you must remember that the stock in the plane is limited. If the plane does not have enough stock of goods you expected, you have no choice to buy unless it has landed in arrival terminal. It shall be notice too that the price is changing everytime, so make sure you have the newest available information that you will save your money.
