Ujung Kulon National Park is the first national park, founded in Indonesia. The park (80,000 ha) lies on a peninsula in south-west Java and includes the islands Pulau Peucang, Pulau Panaitan and the Krakatau archipelago. On 1 February, 1992, the Proposed Ujung Kulon National Park complex and the Krakatau Islands Nature Reserve were declared a World Heritage Site. The borders on the north, south and west side of Ujung Kulon are made up by the Indian Ocean. The Honje mountain range, including the highest point of the park Gunung Honje (620 m), forms the eastern border. The Indian Ocean is the main access route. It includes the volcanic island group of Krakatoa and other islands including Handeuleum and Peucang. The park encompasses an area of 1,206 km² (443 km² marine), most of which lies on a peninsula reaching into the Indian Ocean.

Gede Pangrango National Park, together with four others, was established under a declaration made by the minister of Agriculture on 6th March, 1980. These first five park had the distinction of launching Indonesia's National Park Programme.

The park, covering 15,196 ha, evolved from several already existing conservation areas: Cibodas Nature Reseve (240 ha), gazetted in 1889, was the oldest reserve in Indonesia and in 1925 was extended to 1,040 ha; Cimungkat Nature Reserve (56 ha) gazetted in 1919; situgunung Recreational Park (120 ha) gazetted in 1975; and Mount Gede Pangrango nature Reserve (14,000 ha) gazetted in 1978.

The government has embarked upon a great effort in developing tourist resort in Purwakarta. The effort is basically a kind of interdisciplinary and participation by applying economic criteria, agronomy technique, socio culture, energy saving, environment and nature conservation. This effort is commenced through Regional Tourism Development Program with the aim to improve regional tourist resort by developing tourism infrastructure based on nature potency, like lake resort, mount resort, and agrarian resort and also by conserving archeology sites. The following are tourist resort condition and potency in Kabupaten Purwakarta:

Kabupaten Purwakarta, which lies in south east part of West Java Province, 107° 30’ - 107° 40’ of West Longitude and 6° 25’ - 6° 45’ South parallel, has a wide range area of 970.172 ha or 971,72 km2 and more than 710.000 population. The administration borders of Kabupaten Purwakarta are adjacent to Kabupaten Karawang on the west and some north side, Kabupaten Subang on the north and some of the east side, Kabupaten Bandung on the south side, and the last to Kabupaten Cianjur on the south west side. Kabupaten Purwakarta lies on the central point of the intersection between three strategic main traffic directions, which are Purwakarta-Jakarta, Purwakarta-Bandung, and Purwakarta-Cirebon, which leads to Central Java. The distance from Purwakarta to Jakarta is approximately 95km or 1-hour travel through the toll road. While the distance from Purwakarta to Bandung, the capital city of West Java is approximately 70km.
 

Cibodas Botanic Garden has a long and important history of research and conservation. The early history of Cibodas Botanic Garden is also the early history of what is now one of Indonesia's most significant National Parks and a World Heritage Area, Mt Gede-Pangrango National Park. Cibodas is renowned as one of the first tropical research stations in the world, and numerous scientists have used the station for their research on tropical rainforests.

On March 2 nd , 1811 Balubur Limbangan Regency was wiped out by Governor General Herman W. Daendels (Dutch Colonial). Its Regent, Tumenggung Wangsakusumah II was honourable resigned. Balubur Limbangan Regency comprised 6 sub-districts: Balubur, Malangbong, Wanaraja, Wanakerta, Cibeureum and Papandak.

The hills and mountains that surround Bandung are sometimes somewhat humorously and affectionately referred to as the "guardian angels of Bandung". It is as if they stand guard and protect the city but they might also be thought of as brooding giants. Heading southwest from the city, though, one is more likely to think of the hills as guardian angels. The scenery is attractive and rolling hills lead up to higher mountains, portraying a bucolic charm and peacefulness. Heading towards Mount Patuha, some 35 to 40 kilometers from central Bandung, the urban sprawl of the city gradually gives way to the countryside and the road narrows and starts to climb into the surrounding hills.

Every once in a while it is nice, if at all possible, to get away from the metropolis that is Jakarta, with all its traffic congestion and choking pollution, and head for the coast to get some sun, sand and reviving sea air.
